Brighten Up with Sonia Kashuk’s Satin Luxe Lipsticks & an awesome $100 GiftCard Giveaway!

Do you know what Kate Middleton and I have in common? We favor a signature look. We know what works and we stick to it. Lined eyes, check. Bronzed skin, check. Pink blush, check. Soft, loose, bouncy curls, triple check.

Occasionally, though, a gal has to step outside of her comfort zone. (After all, the Duchess did recently wear sparkly gold Jimmy Choos and a deep plum polish on her toes.)Inspired by her breakaway from a classic round-toe pump and royally proper soft pink pedicure, I too decided it was time to make a bold beauty move, and so began my encounter with the bright lipsticks I’ve always admired but was afraid to wear.

I’ve always been eager to try the Sonia Kashuk products I saw in the beauty section at Target (especially after reading rave reviews about her makeup brush collection), so when Target sent me some products from Sonia Kashuk’s collection, I felt it was time to break out of my soft pinks and nudes and bring my lips into spring by trying a bright pink shade.

I was intrigued by Sonia Kashuk’s Satin Luxe Lip Color because the formula was created to feel silky and smooth when initially applied and then it’s supposed to morph into a long-lasting lip stain--because in America, we send people to the moon and make lipsticks that morph from smooth and moisturizing to a long-lasting stain.

I first tested it on my hand and noticed it didn’t wipe off easily like most lipsticks, but that’s okay, because I like a challenge. I had to work on it to remove it completely, so for ladies who like their lips to stay bright after sipping coffee…and eating a muffin…and having that second cup of coffee, this may just be the lipstick/lip stain for you.

Though it’s available in 14 shades (including tried-and-true colors like “Nude Pink”), in my quest to step outside of my signature look, I test-drove “Pink Punch.”

First, let’s talk packaging, as I’m a big fan of all things pretty. I liked the simple black case and also that the top shows the color so that you don’t have to turn your lipstick upside down and squint to figure out what color it is as you’re fumbling through your makeup bag (never while driving, of course) or your vanity. I also loved the “SK” stamp on the top of the lipstick. It’s a nice touch and very Tom Ford-esque (only without the hefty $40 price tag).

Something I love is that the Satin Luxe Lip Color has an SPF of 16, plus lots of other great anti-aging ingredients like Brown Seaweed Extract to preserve skin elasticity, and Ceramide 2 and Palmitoyl Peptide to visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles (because, sadly, lips get wrinkles too). With summer just around the corner, SPF on the lips is a must. As we all know from sipping a too-hot drink, lip burns hurt…especially so when they’re inflicted by the sun’s harsh rays.

I was nervous to put on such a pigmented color (because hello, I just started filling my wardrobe with color this year…my lips were totally uncharted territory), but I cautiously applied it and was pleasantly surprised to see how much it brightened up my skin at 7:30 in the morning.

Though it’s a long-lasting formula, it’s a cinch to re-apply because there’s already a great stain on your lips to act as a base for the color. I also like that although it’s a lipstick, it has a nice satin finish that makes lips look moisturized and healthy, and it’s not too thick or glumpy. (Is that even a word?)

So, here comes the moment we’ve all been waiting for--the bright pink lips, in all their glory:

Now that you’ve seen this pretty pink lipstick, I know you’ll want one too--and BlogHer is giving away a $100 Target GiftCard to one lucky winner (so, um, you can totally buy the lipstick and, like, 10 other things). If you’d like to enter, please leave me a comment
below that answers the following question:

How much is too much to pay for lipstick?

Seriously. You all heard me in my “products I regret buying video” talking about the underwhelming $30 Dior lipstick I bought (it’s not a bad lipstick, but $30 was steep for a non-holy-grail product). At $9.99, the Sonia Kashuk lipstick is a steal, especially because it’s long-lasting and multipurpose. (I like to dab a bit on with my finger and top with gloss for a softer look.)

Here are the official entry rules:
No duplicate comments. You MUST leave a valid email address along with your comment.
You may receive (2) total entries by selecting from the following entry methods:
a) Leave a comment in response to the sweepstakes prompt on this post
b) Tweet about this promotion and leave the URL to that tweet in a comment on this post
c) Blog about this promotion and leave the URL to that post in a comment on this post
d) For those with no Twitter or blog, read the official rules to learn about an alternate form of entry.

This giveaway is open to US Residents age 18 or older. Winners will be selected via random draw and will be notified by e-mail. You have 72 hours to get back to me, otherwise a new winner will be selected.

The Official Rules are available here. This sweepstakes runs from 6/4 to 6/30. Be sure to visit the sponsor's brand page on BlogHer.com, where you can read other bloggers’ reviews and find more chances to win!

Good luck!

Love Target and Lipstick! How much is too much for a lipstick? That's tough, because I have my share of $25+ lipsticks. I say if you love it, it's your choice to spend a lot on a lipie, if you're buying for the name and you're underwhelmed, you paid to much!

Pink lips look AWESOME on you! I, too, and a nude lips girl (my fav is c-thru by MAC), however you may have just given me the push to try something bright!

I think over $20 is too much for a lipstick. I usually spend about that much on a good lipstick or lip gloss, but anything over that would make me cringe.

I love that color. The Maybeline lip balm I have is very similar color. I hardly wear lipstick expect for special occasions. Revlon has a color I love and it is relatively inexpensive. My limit would be $15 on lipstick. I want to try this though I like that it works like a lipstain and lipstick all in one.

My holy grail is (surprisingly) Wet n Wild's matte colors. Use a little swipe of gloss and its incredible. Stays on forever and leaves an awesome stain for when it starts to wear off! Going to give the SK a try now!

I would be willing to pay more for the lipstick if I really love the shade and if it was moisturizing as well as long lasting. I think $20 is a reasonable amount.

I wouldn't pay more than $15 because I don't wear lipstick very often...more of a gloss gal!

Hi Veronika,

Love the bright pink lips on you and way to go on stepping out of your confort zone!

To answer the question, I really don't have a spending limit on a lipstick (which is totally bad, I know!) but I feel if you find a lipstick that you totally absolutly adore and fall in love with, go ahead and splurge a little. As long as you know your going to use it again and again.

Honestly, I won't spend more than $10 on lipstick. Make-up in general is hard for me to buy because I don't wear a lot of it. I suppose I buy mascara the most because it goes so quickly! I love the "Pink Punch" color!

I can't justify spending more than $10 on lipstick - mostly because I know I probably won't wear it. I'm more of a gloss girl and even then I think $10 is pushing it. I do love Sonia Kashuk products at Target!

I love the diversity of colors! I would spend more money on foundation or a concealor but for lipstick... $18... and that is pushing it. I think a $10 lipstick that seems to work this great is probably going to be a big hit!

I personally have just started using lipstick and have fallen in love! I like the bright pop of color it adds to my face. I have purchased 2 $5 lipsticks by Revlon and they work very well. I probably wouldn't spend more than $15-20 on a tube of lipstick because at that point, you're buying the brand name and not so much the quality of ingredients!

The most I've spent on lip products is $18 for a lip conditioner that I love. I'd love to find a great lipstick to wear over it!

So far I haven't paid more than $15 for a lipstick. I just don't wear it enough to justify high prices. I'd love to try one of these.

Love it! I don't know that I'd want to spend more than $12-15 on lipstuff, primarily bc I have a dozen tubes that were freebies, so I never use all of any of them and keep going to the next.

I have spent a wide range on lip products before the cheapest being a 99 cent tinted lip balm and the most expensive being a lip plumping lipstick for 30 dollars! I love the color on you!

I won't pay more than $10 for a lipstick I can't try first. If I can test it before purchasing, I'll pay $20ish if I really love it.

I think more than $25 is too much for a lipstick. Although free is better :-)

I have spent almost $60 for a lip balm. I have also spent in the 30s for lipsticks. I would say i paid too much. I guess it depends on the product. If i wear it all the time, i would happily spend up to 20.

Personally, I wouldn't spend more than $15 dollars on a single lipstick but that's because I snack way too much and drink way too much tea throughout the day so I'm constantly worried that the lipstick will smear and get either a) on my face or b) on my teeth

I tweeted about this giveaway :)

I've yet to find a color I'm comfortable wearing. I'm a gloss or chapstick gal so $9.99 is way to much for me to try a lipstick. If I found the PERFECT lipstick, I'd pay up to $15. I highly doubt that will ever happen.

I most likely would not spend more than $10 on a lipstick. However, I am a recent college graduate who is rather poor & I am pretty content with Revlon Lipsticks that do not go over $10. As someone who is also tempted every she walks into Target, I would love to win this giveaway and be able to try the Sonia Kashuk products !

Chanel lipstick is my favorite, but at $32 a pop it doesn't get purchased frequently. I tend to stick to the $10 range for my day to day lip stick and glosses.

I would probably spend up to $15 for lip products- I'm more of a nude lip kind of girl, and I find that you can get great products in that price range (like the Sonia Kashuk products of course) and I'd much rather spend my beauty budget money on a good foundation than on lipstick. Thanks for the giveaway! stacy1693@hotmail.com

I frequently pay $32.50 for my Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in BOY #54, which is part of my signature look. I suppose fifty dollars would be my cap for a "perfect" lipstick. I'd love to find a ten dollar lipstick that was the ONE.

Please wear more lip colors like that one as a regular lip color! It looks fantastic on you. Not that it matters what I think, but I really dislike that pale pink or nude lip color that you wear (if it's even a lip color, or just bare lips?) on you. It washes you out and is not flattering on most people. True pinks look absolutely lovely on you and it changes your whole look - in a good way.
