Haul Video: Ulta Shopping Trip

Hello ladies!  Hope everyone is having a great weekend.  I totally just filmed a haul video. Yup. My first ever real YouTube video.

It has been requested for a long time now that I do videos and though it was admittedly a little awkward at first, I really got into it eventually and I enjoyed making it.  You know what this means, there will be a curling tutorial one day since I know how to film now...though I filmed in my closet and I have no idea how I can have my curling iron in there...so I may have to find another location to film.

A few notes: my video ends abruptly because YouTube will only let me have 10 minutes and it was 11:27.  But I got through everything in my haul so that's good. Sorry about the horrible lighting (my hair looks lighter IRL) and about the constant "umms" in the video. I realize it sounds awful but I guess I was nervous being that it was my first time filming (and it's uh...kind of weird to talk to your camera at first...but by the end I was just going on and on like it was nothin')

Anyway,  if you have any video requests let me know in the comments below! I thought it would be fun to do a closet tour and a home tour too. I will work on lighting and try to film somewhere else next time. I hate when it's all dark and dingy.

PS- I think I need to start using my DSLR to film videos from now on...but I need to figure out how to do it...more to come on that.  I am using a FlipCam right now and I just think the software doesn't allow for editing like I'd like it to.

What I've Been Eating

Here it is! Finally! My long-promised "what I eat" post.

I tracked what I ate for over a week to give people who were interested an idea of the kinds of meals and snacks I eat frequently.  My diet is not perfect and I am NOT advocating that this is the right diet or telling anyone they should eat like I do. Believe me, I'm aware my diet could use a lot of improvement.

I simply recorded what I've been eating to give people an idea of what my daily meals  look like (and to show I actually uh, do eat.)

I'm working on adding more veggies to my diet right now and more protein as well.  You'll also notice I tend to eat the same thing for breakfast almost every morning: oatmeal with cinnamon and blueberries. I just love it and can't help myself. I've also included my workouts on any given day so that you can see what I did that day, in addition to my eating.

While cooking---a piece of cucumber and a slice of a peach (I was cutting up fruit for the work week)

A few bites of the egg, spinach, broccoli and zucchini casserole thing I made---it was a combo of whole eggs and egg whites. Baked in the oven for 30 minutes. I am going to eat them for breakfast to get a little break from my oatmeal.

Some PopChips (BBQ flavor). Today was a massive snacking day for me. I typically never really eat like this---I like to have full meals, but it just didn't work out that way for me. I was so focused on preparing food for the week that I kind of just grazed all day.

2 fun size butterfinger chocolate bars

1 cup of Tazo whiteberry tea

What I'm trying to work on:
  • Recently, I've been trying to add more protein to my breakfast to keep me full until lunch. In addition to my oatmeal with fruit, I am now eating 2 turkey breakfast sausages (Jennie-O brand, 90 calories for 2 links). My coworker also suggested eggs and egg whites so I will try to add those in some days as well instead of the oatmeal to mix it up a little!
  • Eating more veggies---period! I need to eat more vegetables. I've been eating more salads lately and have been buying veggie trays with dip to keep at work for snack time
  •  I would like to eat cleaner---more fresh, less processed
  • I would like to eat more protein in general, not just at breakfast
  • Drink lots of green tea---studies prove green tea lowers cortisol levels and that green tea drinkers tend to have less belly fat
  • Drink a lot of water
  • Buy "fun size" treats so you don't go overboard
  • Grocery shop on Sunday and buy healthy foods---cut all fruits up and take them to work in GladWare so there are no excuses for bad snacking!
  • Buy pre-made veggie trays so you always have accessible veggies that you can eat at work or on the go (no excuses since it's already cut up into bite size pieces for you!)
  • Skinny cow ice cream sandwiches are huge, satisfy ice cream cravings and are only 130-140 calories---I like to have one after dinner sometimes
  • If you have trouble understanding how much you are eating (like I did) use www.dailyplate.com to track calories
  • Eat smaller portions---I used to eat until my stomach hurt because I thought that's what you should feel to be "full"---STOP before your stomach hurts---I promise if you give your stomach a little more time to tell your brain you are full, you will feel satisfied even if you stop eating before that "full" feeling
  • Read Bethenny Frankel's "Naturally Thin" book---seriously---it made me think differently about food
Favorite Snacks:
  • BBQ Pop Chips
  • Fun Size Butterfingers
  • Homemade strawberry banana smoothies
  • Quaker oatmeal raisin granola bars
  • Plain almonds
  • Skinny Cow cookies and cream ice cream sandwiches
  • Reeces Pieces bites (you can have like 55 of them for 160 calories!)
  • Kashi crackers with peanut butter
  • Brocolli, cauliflower and baby carrots with ranch dip
  • Cereal- honey nut cheerios, fruit loops, Kashi Go Lean, frosted flakes (all in moderation, of course)
  • Starbucks's low fat very berry coffee cake
  • Teddy Grahams in "cinnamon" or "honey"
  • ShaSha ginger snap cookies (addicted to these!)
  • Sour Patch Kids (but I hardly eat these anymore...they are too good to eat in moderation)
Here are some updated pics of my workout progress too!

(Yes, my hip bones have always stuck out like that, no matter what weight I am at)

Well, that's all ladies.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them below. If you have constructive suggestions or recipe/meal ideas, I welcome those as well. If you are going to leave a comment telling me that I have an eating disorder or anything in that realm, please don't waste your time actually typing it out, because I will not publish it.

I realized I didn't post about water intake---I drink a TON of water everyday.

I also have been really loving a lot of different fruits lately---watermelon, honey dew, cherries and raspberries galore---I am often eating these as snacks after lunch.

I Made a Mistake!

Yesterday, I reviewed a Maybelline product which I mistakenly called "Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Treatment Makeup" when the product I was actually reviewing is called "Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles." I realized this when I looked at the packaging again today.
So sorry about that---I've updated the review and you can check it out here.

Product Rave: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles

When I discover a product on a random trip to my grocery store and that product ends up being amazing and totally holy-grail worthy, I get pretty excited.

Ever since my precious YSL Touche Eclat highlighting pen ran out, I've been on the hunt for a less-pricey product that basically did the same thing.

I still LOVE Touche Eclat, but this Maybelline product really delivers without the hefty price tag.  It's called "Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles."  I got it in the PINK color, but it also comes in other skin tone colors. If you are fair or have medium skin, I'd get the pink shade because that's what counteracts darkness and creates a bright look around the eye. The pink shade is called #60 "Brightener"

Here is a swatch of the product on my hand:

Here's the bottom line: if Benefit's "Eye Bright" pencil and Yves Saint Laurent's "Touche Eclat" had a baby, this amazing product would be it.

It combines the light pink color of Benefit's"Eye Bright" with the smoothness/creaminess of YSL's "Touche Eclat."  It is long lasting (all day long, even through a workout) and it really works just like the YSL product (which retails for $40).

After applying my concealer and then using my MAC Studio Fix powder on my entire face, I apply the Maybelline product under my eyes only. Then, I use an fluffy eyeshadow blending brush to blend it out and/or my finger to pat it into skin.

I prefer using pink or peach toned concealers under the eye because they create that coveted "glow" and "bright" look in the eye area, which can be more difficult to achieve with skin-toned products.

The applicator of this product, as you can tell from the photo above, is a sponge-tip applicator. I don't mind it. I actually prefer the YSL brush/pen with the button you push to get the product out, but the sponge on the Maybelline Age Rewind is the perfect size to just swipe under each eye.

I truly think this product is a great investment for anyone who would like a brighter look around the eyes.  It's under $10 at more drugstores, which is a steal considering similar products retail for much more.

Just to clarify, because I will probably get this question---I still continue to use my Benefit "Eye Bright" pencil in the inner corners of my eyes.  I only use the Maybelline product underneath my eyes (where you would get "bags").

This product is definitely worth the investment---for anyone who either hasn't bitten the bullet and gotten the YSL highlighter or for anyone who wants to try an alternative to it.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

FTC: I purchased this product with my own money when I discovered it at the grocery store.  I am not being paid for this review, they are all just my honest to goodness true thoughts.

OOTD: Black, White & Lace

Well ladies, I finally did it! I wore my Gilly Hicks white lace top that I got months ago (on May 21st, to be exact). I don't know what took me so long, but I'm glad I finally decided to let it escape from the confines of my closet.

Top- Gilly Hicks
Cardigan- Charlotte Russe
Skirt- Banana Republic
Shoes- Kate Spade
This top has a lot of versatility---I'd also like to try it with a more casual outfit and pairing it with color.  You may recall when I initially tried it on, it was with a much more casual outfit:

See?! Totally versatile.
Happy Monday everyone! (sorry for the iPhone pics today, my camera battery is charging!)

Weekend Shopping @ The Domain in Austin!

Hello everyone and so sorry I have been MIA this past week! My H and I were up in Austin again this weekend and I convinced H to stop at The Domain mall (an all-outdoor mall) before we drove back to Houston.

First off, here is a picture of me with an adorable puppy named Sunny!  One of our host's friends had just gotten him and he was too cute not to share a picture of! (awwwwww!)

...and kind of random, but for anyone wondering,
here's what the Kendra Scott "Danielle" earrings look like on:

My first shopping stop was at Forever 21 where I purchased this flowy midi-length dress, which is apparently going to be a big trend this fall. I think it will look great with tall wedges and sandals too! I got a size small and it retails for $24.50.

Next up, I got this adorable dress at A'Gaci.  It's the perfect summer dress or swim cover-up (and surprisingly was not so short that my butt cheeks showed!) It came with an atrocious belt that I removed prior to snapping this photo
because I didn't wan to traumatize y'all!

How adorable are those eyelets!?  I got a size medium and it retails for $32.50.

Then, I got these two dresses (on sale! plus an additional 15% off!) at American Eagle. Great for summer, the beach, vacations, etc!

I got this dress in an XS (it stretches at the top). It was on sale for $14.99
plus I got an additional 15% off with my coupon!
I just fell in love with the fun mixed print and colors (hello, PINK!)

This dress was on sale for $19.99 plus an additional 15% off.  It's a size 4.
I think it will be cute for a variety of occasions and I also think it will look
awesome belted...with a cognac colored belt, perhaps. We shall see!

and finally....

I got this YUMMY candle at Anthropologie. I love this line of candles and have always stopped to smell them every time I visit the store...
so I decided it was time to get one for our home.

I highly recommend this scent---the french lavender smells amazing also!

What did you do this weekend? Leave me a comment below!

Five Things (on a Tuesday)

My yummy breakfast Sunday morning---
gluten-free waffles, Nutella & fresh strawberries:

A dress I tried on (and didn't buy) at Banana Republic on Sunday.  It's a size 0 (?????) which is insane.  Dear Banana Republic, please start sizing your clothes properly---it's really awful that someone my height and weight could fit into a zero. Though, I am kind of regretting not getting it since I would have gotten 65% off!

This awesome salad recipe I plan to try from SHAPE magazine
(w/ Audrina Patridge on the cover)  Doesn't it look delish!? (click to enlarge)

New Shorts from Lulu's (size medium fits me PERFECT!)
(Pretty Girl Rock Lace Black Shorts---buy them here)

They are actually dark black but I played around with Instagram.
They are SO flattering on. Can't wait to post an outfit with them!

Before leaving for today's workout---typical outfit:
Saucony shoes; Underarmor shorts; Lululemon Cool Racerback Tank & Old Navy sports bra!
I am convinced iPhone photos take off at least 5 lbs because I always look a
little smaller in iPhone pics than when I use my DSLR.

Home Tour: Updated Photos (Full Rooms!)

As promised, I'm doing a post with more home photos that focus on the rooms in our home---whereas my last post was a little more focused on decor/details.

We had one showing already and here's to hoping that momentum will continue!

Living Room/Dining Area/Kitchen

 Master Bed/Bath

Guest Bed/Bath

Well, that's it!  The place we've called home for the last 4 years.  I love this house, we just need a little more room!  I realize some people live in apartments and smaller homes than ours, but everyone has different preferences. Plus, if you want to have a family eventually, it's nice to have that extra room, because kid's stuff takes up a lot of space.

Looking at these photos makes me realize how far our home has come since when we bought it.  The previous owners didn't do anything to it---no paint, not decor...just a mish-mash of random stuff.  It was definitely not as visually appealing as the property is now (not to toot my own horn or anything, but it was pretty bland and "eh" before we decorated it.) It's so amazing how a home can transform with a paint job and a little strategic planning!

PS- was your home kind of blah before you moved into it and worked your magic?! Share your experiences in the comments below!

Latisse Update: Longer, Thicker Lashes

This Latisse update is extremely long overdue!  The product has definitely done what it promises---my lashes are longer and thicker

I am enjoying the results and I am still on my first bottle even though it's been like 8 weeks!  I also got a second bottle for free through a promo they did.

This product is costly, so I would say it's more of a luxury than a must-have, unless your lashes are seriously short or sparse
.  I didn't hate my lashes before I started using it, I moreso wanted to see how dramatic the results would be (and  I think they are pretty dramatic). The best part is that I don't really feel the need to line my top lash line as much as before---the lashes alone make my eyes stand out!

This is a photo of my lashes immediately after using eye makeup remover to take off all of my mascara:

And here they are with my daily eye makeup on:

(super close-up taken w/iPhone)

The only thing I wish Latisse did for me was curl my lashes more. I still have to curl them to really "show off" the length.  The first photos above were taken right after eye makeup remover but before washing my face---once they get wet, the completely lose the curl.  I know the product doesn't promise more curl...but I kinda wish that was one of the side effects!

So, there you have it ladies!  Do I like the Latisse?  Yup!  Will I continue to use it? I'll finish my first bottle and my second and then we will see what happens from there---I'll probably take a break from it  and start back up again later on.

So, to summarize:

  • makes lashes longer/thicker
  • is easy to use
  • doesn't cause irritation (not for me, at least)
  • I don't need to wear as much eye makeup anymore---I can go without liner on my top lash line or sometimes I use a tiny bit of liner just to "tightline" but it's very minimal
  • the price
  • can cause irritation for some people
  • doesn't curl lashes more (though, it doesn't promise to, this is just a *wish* for me)

Have you used Latisse? How did you like it?

By the way---you can see my lashes after just 2 weeks of using the product here.  There is quite a difference!
